Very comfortable, well-equipped and situated property

"We stayed at Le Duplex de Chiberta for six weeks in Jan/Feb this year and were very happy there; the weather was incredible. This part of France seems to have its own micro-climate and daytime highs of 19-21 C were common. (There were a few rainy days, too, but it was not at all cold.)

The property is modern, comfortable and very well equipped and situated on a quiet road in Anglet Montbrun, with ample off-street parking. The owner, Eric, speaks good English and was very helpful with suggestions as to where to go, good restaurants etc. He booked a New Year's Eve meal for us at a local restaurant prior to our arrival. The only slight problem we had with the property was that the Wifi was a bit slow and not always reliable, but Eric is looking into it.

Local shops five minutes up the road include two good bakeries, a small but very well stocked supermarket (Spar) a pharmacy, and hairdressers. Try the local Herriko bread from the nearest bakery, it's excellent.

The local bar/restaurant, Le Soly'Less is also very good, we ate there several times as well as spending a pleasant few hours in the bar. The lady proprietor is charming and has good suggestions for places to visit. Gaspard the Boxer dog is a character.

The beaches at Anglet and Biarritz are lovely, with good boardwalks for walking and plenty of cafés and restaurants. Lots of surfers were in the water, and even a few swimmers.

There's a Thalassotherapy centre, L'Atlanthal, about six minutes drive from the property which has treatments, classes and a huge heated 'lagon' with jets and currents for swimming or relaxation. Eric has negotiated a discount for his renters, ask him about it.

We really liked Bayonne for its atmosphere, excellent shops (including chocolate and ham) plus cafes and restaurants. Nice riverside walks too.

Nearer home we recommend the shopping centre Les Halles at Cinq Cantons for excellent fresh produce, and the restaurant L'Atrium, nearby. We ate sitting outside it in glorious weather this January !

Two big hypermarkets are in Anglet, Leclerc and Carrefour. There's a butchers and fishmongers at Place Lamothe. The weekly Sunday morning market at Quintaou, Anglet, is well worth a visit.

Le Duplex de Chiberta is a great base to visit Basque villages either side of the border, and it's only 40 minutes drive to wonderful San Sebastian with its incredible pinxtos bars. The food displays must be seen to be believed.

We visited St-Jean de Luz on the coast, as well as Hendaye/Hondarribia (either side of the border, to the south) and CapBreton to the north. Inland, St-Jean-Pied-de-Port in the Irouleguy wine producing region is very pretty, as is Labastide Clairance, on the road to Pau, about half an hour's drive. You can taste wines and cheese at lots of places, we went to the Irouleguy Cave Co-Operative.

The local council is building an eco-park right alongside the house, it should be lovely when it's done this year. There are wild coypu there !!!

Great travel base

"We spent two months at this property, from late August to late October. The owner, Eric Di Maggio, speaks very good English and is very accommodating. He pays attention to the property, and responds to any issues promptly. An expansive new park is under construction next to the property which will greatly enhance the location. We used the property as a base to explore the Basque Country and travelled to Netherlands, Belgium and across Spain while we were there.

Anglet is a residential community with a spectacular beach, and is wedged between Biarritz and Bayonne. San Sebastian, Spain, is but 45 minutes drive, and the Bordeaux wine country is only about 2 hours. This was an excellent base for our purposes."

"Amazing Location

My husband and I enjoyed our stay in "Le Duplex de Chiberta". A fantastic location near beautiful beaches, interesting day drives to villages and resort towns nearby. Everything we needed was only a walk or short drive away in Anglet. Great choice of restaurants, shopping and scenery.

The townhouse was very clean and had all the essentials for a carefree holiday.

The owner was extremely helpful with the immediate attention to break down of hot water and had it repaired pronto, also knowledgeable of the area and advice for activities to recommend.

We will be returning one day hopefully soon. Highly reccommend this accomodation. From Australian Couple. Brisbane"

" We fully enjoyed our two week stay in May with a sunny weather. We very much appreciated the apartment that had everything we needed for a self catering family holiday... a real home from home !!!

The property is comfortable, beautifully decorated, well-equipped and very clean with a delightful balcony area ideal for relaxing and enjoying dining alfresco. Beds were very comfortable.

Situated in a quiet residential street, the house is very well located in the heart of Anglet, near Biarritz and Bayonne. We spend our days exploring the Basque Country but this amazing region has so much to offer that we ran out of time to fit it all in.

Eric, the very friendly owner, personally welcomed us on arrival and showed us around the house. He gave us a wealth of information regarding the places to visit (beaches, Basque villages, local market, lake, vineyards ...), where to buy local foods and the French way of life. We are hoping to go back to Anglet and will definitely stay there again !  A family from New York"
